Jackie Rogers has been making Rag Rugs since 1995. A passion for recycling, and visits to the library to learn all she could on the history
of rug making , inspired her to have a go. Jackie could find no teachers
in Australia at the time, so she experimented with hessian, and a variety of home made tools. Her first rug featured clothing from her mum, who had just passed away, and she had beautiful ball gowns & cocktail frocks. Jackie made a “memory rug” of her mum. A feature story appeared in “The Weekly Times” with her mums rug in march 2000. The article mentioned that Jackie had kits available by mail order and to her amazement Jackie received over 300 orders from all over Australia,
as well as New Zealand.

Jackie has also featured in “Country Style” “Country Threads” “Homespun” and “Gippsland Country Life” magazines.
Exhibitions include: Stockyard Gallery; april 09 – Coal Creek; march 09 – Pink Fly; may 09.

Jackie has taught her rugs all over Melbourne, N.S.W, as well as at her studio in Foster. Jackie has sold her rugs in England & America, as well
as completed commission work. Rag Rug making is a very rewarding craft, using hessian as a backing, recycled clothing and a simple tool,
you can create a work of art. Like a quilt, the rug can be handed down thru the family.
